facismo nelle strade
This was one of the first works I completed in Italy. I was interested in uncovering remnants of fascism in Florence because I had noticed an erasure in the way people spoke about it. Early on in Italian fascism, there was a fascist who was killed in an insurgency, Giovanni Berta, and his father, who manufactured many of Florence's sewer grates, changed the company logo to honor his son. Some of these grates are still left in Florence. I magnified and abstracted the logo in this diptych to reference the erasure and absolvement of responsibility Italy takes towards fascism as part of their history.
